2014 – NUMBERS!

Posted: July 6, 2014 in News/Updates, Trails, Volunteer
The MBAA hosted 7 events this year, we had over 2,737 riders (total) compete in the series this year – an increase in participation over the past few years.  As a result of the series, the MBAA will be donating over $15,000 to trail projects throughout the state. The MBAA already issued a $5000 check to the Flagstaff Bike Organization to help rebuild Little Bear – that check, coupled with historical donations from the MBAA and the Super D event, will be combined for a total of $10,000 and matched to have over $20,000 of work done on that trail this year. None of this work would be complete without the leadership and guidance of local groups – specifically FBO and Anthony Quintile.  Other projects that will receive grants include -
  • Little Bear Trail
  • Trips for Kids
  • Sedona Bike Park
  • TORCA – Tucson Off Road Cyclists and Activists
  • Dog Collar – Cave Creek
In addition to the series events, MBAA riders and teams are requested to perform volunteer/trail hours to help increase the profitability of the events, and stress the importance of continuing to maintain and build trails.  Riders completed over 300 volunteer hours and over 600 hours of trail work (nearly 1,000 hours total)!  We look forward to increasing this number yet again in 2015.  Thank you to all the riders, volunteers and staff that help make this series, and the trails of Arizona, fantastic!

FUNDS TO FLAG

Posted: June 24, 2014 in News/Updates, Trails

checkWondering where funds from the 2014 season end up?  Well here is our first big check that went to the Flagstaff Biking Organization – $5000 in funds were given to FBO.  These funds, along with another $5000 in funds (from historical MBAA contributions, as well as Absolute) will be matched and almost $20,000 in funds will be used towards trail work in Flagstaff.  This is a HUGE amount of funding and certainly not possible without the support of YOU, the MBAA, all of our sponsors and the local shops around the valley.  Stay tuned for the next round of funds to hit the community.

HEAT IS ON…dangit

Well.  The heat is back, the season is over and the board is in re-tool and re-fuel mode.  We are taking a slight hiatius before we start cracking on sponsors, venues, courses and modifications to the series.  The survey feedback was very helpful – thank you – good and bad, we need to take it and help ensure we keep the series fun – it helps the cycling community, our trails and you.  We will draft up a summary of the year and post that out – along with telling you where the funds from 2014 are headed, there are some amazing projects out there – be a part of them, an active, positive part of them.

See you on the trails – stay cool -
~The Board

HOURS SUMMARY

Posted: May 16, 2014 in News/Updates

We (no, I) shut down trail hour submittal, and volunteer sign up.  Quite simply we have enough volunteers for Flag as it stands today and your trail work should have been submitted at the latest after the weekend.  Don’t get us wrong, we appreciate the work, but we need to get things dialed for Saturday.

We have tees being printed, pizza on order, trophies for the Big and little teams and the series to wrap up.  A Vassago frame will be given away, and state titles are on the line.  There should be some good team points (and individual) on the line.  See you soon -

ps – Don’t forget about the Super D on Sunday – proceeds to FBO – LIMITED SLOTS!

FRAME / SCHWAG / RADNESSnew logo

Most of us know Tom Ament as an avid single speeder, fast guy.  Did you know he brought Vassago Cycles back to life?  The guy has passion, and is driven to succeed.  Similarly he wants to help grow the sport of mountain biking.  To that end, Vassago Cycles will be the official sponsor of the Single Speed category (men and women) for the 2014 (and hopefully beyond) season.  Expect rad schwag and…get this….if you race in 4 or more events, you qualify to win a free frame from Vassago!  Yep.  One lucky rider will get a FREE Vassago frame, randomly selected from among all the single speed riders that competed in 4 or more single speed races in the series.  Time to drop the gears, or better yet, pick up a new steed from Vassago!

ADDED BONUS - MBAA members will be able to get a 10% discount on frames at local Vassago dealers and online!
