Send comments via ADOTs public link:

As many of you know ADOT has proposed the extension of the Loop 202 South Mountain freeway for sometime. The draft Environmental Impact Statement was released in April and is open for a comment period until July 24th.

A group called Protecting Arizona’s Resources and Children (PARC) is working to oppose this by-pass alignment which will run along the Pecos road alignment. Many of you on this email chain know how important Pecos and this area has been to many recreational athletes and cyclists in the Ahwatukee / Tempe / Chandler area.  This freeway will decimate the cycling and recreation along this corridor as well as bring increased truck traffic impacting our safety and our health. Yep the rumor is true.  The board (ok just 2 of us) headed out to Havasu to do some research on venues for 2014.  We were greeted with open arms from Larry (AZ Built Sports) and Elaine from Lake Havasu City events.  Larry treated to a tour of the trails at Sara Park, and let us tell ya, Larry is strong.  We took a few pics (aka caught our breath, pics on instagram on the left) and took in about as much as we could before the temps hit triple digits.  The trails are great – in large part due to the support of the local community (River Cyclery & SportHavasu Bike) .  Havasu is on our short list of venues to throw in the lineup for 2014, so keep your tires to the ground as we fine tune the 2014 lineup.

global bikes1Al, Brandee, Mark and the whole crew at Global Bikes helped take the races this season to a different level.  They chopped up fruit, gave out salty snacks of goodness, refilled jugs, and made sure everything stayed topped off and nothing walked off that shouldn’t have.  In the process, they lost a few tents at MARC in the park and made our lives easier.  Hopefully you all gave them some extra love as a LBS that is active in the cycling community.  If not, take a second and give them an extra like or 2 for their facebook page or better yet, drop in and say thanks in person.

It means a lot to us – as cyclists and as a local event series to say that Global will be back on board for 2014 – not only keeping us stocked up, but as the presenting sponsor for the McDowell Meltdown, as well as the MARC in the Park events!  Thank you for your support!
